Paedodontics
Children's dental care differs significantly from that of adults, taking into account variables such as age, growth, and personality. This is why a specialised branch called paediatric dentistry is dedicated specifically to their unique needs.
Paedodontics, or paediatric dentistry, focuses on preventing and treating patients during their developmental years, ranging between 2 and 16 years old.
Our scope of practice includes carious lesion prevention, fissure sealing, fillings, fluoride applications, and oral hygiene.
We provide both parents and children with essential guidelines for maintaining oral health. We demonstrate proper manoeuvres for effective plaque removal and help them improve their cleaning habits. Making oral health a habit at a young age ensures a healthy smile throughout adulthood.
How we approach young patients is crucial. Our goal is to ensure that children feel at ease during their visit and see us as their allies in keeping their teeth healthy.
Paediatric dental treatments can involve conscious sedation to ensure a more comfortable experience to the patient, even if they are terrified of the dentist.
Questions
The first visit has a purely cognitive purpose and is recommended by the age of four. It’s appropriate for the child to become acquainted with the dental practice, the personnel, and the dentist’s world.
Simple rules involve oral hygiene, nutrition, and prevention. Children should brush their teeth at least twice a day (in the morning and evening), preferably under parental supervision, so parents can assist if needed. We encourage a diverse diet for children, including sweets, ideally consumed during meals and before fruits. This sequence ensures an initial cleaning action, which should be completed with a toothbrush after each meal. We also recommend avoiding snacking between meals. Doing so leads to a constant production of acids and keeps the gastrointestinal system always active. It’s better to limit the consumption of sticky foods (gum, candy).
We advise to talk to our team when you book a visit. It’s very common to deal with children who are frightened by the idea of visiting the dentist. That’s why our team is prepared to make your child’s experience as pleasant as possible, even with the help of toys. Moreover, we use conscious sedation with nitrous oxide, which gives the young patient a pleasant sense of wellbeing and relaxation.
